FIRE AT KARAMGAHAKE.

Early on Saturday morning a fire broke out in the premises of Mr James, a baker. When first seen the fire appeared to be in Mrs James' bedroom, and in a few minutes the whole building was od fire. The fire brigade soon recognised that it was impossible to save it or the buiidings on either side, and devoted their energies to saving the stocks of goods, but very little was rescued. Adams Brothers and Price Brothers are heavy losers. The stock of Messrs Adams was valued at £IOOO, but the insurances only amounted to £6OO. Price Brothers stock was uninsured, a policy for £750 having been allowed to lapse. One block of buildings destroyed was owned by Mr J. Barrett, and was occupied by Adams Brothers, Roberts (boarding-house), and Dodson M (butcher). The building was insured for W £3OO. Roberts' furniture was insured tor £6O in the Northern, and the same oilice had a line on Dodson's plant for £IOO. McWattcr's grocery store was destroyed, stock insured for £3OO. The Crown boarding-house was insured for £l5O in the North Queensland, dames' bakery premises were insured in the National for £IOO, and the stock and furniture for £IOO in the Northern. In all eight places were destroyed.
