The offers made by the Land Purchase Board for the acquirement of the Gleuniark and Lagmohr Estates, Canterbury, have beeu refused, and negotiations for the purchase of the properties are now at an end.. Dunedin, Last Nieht. Notice of appeal has beeu filed by the defendant in the case of Paterson, the late owner of the Laira and the Union Steamship Company, owners of the steamer Wakatipu. At Outram yesterday the police prosecution of the licensee of the Terminus Hotel, on a charge of permitting gambling in his licensed premises was dismissed, as there was no evidence to show that the licensee was aware that the persons were playing Yankee grab for drinks and money. John Stevenson, farmer, at Otakia, was fined £1 os on each of the two charges of omitting to supply two cows with proper food. The costs amounted to £3 14s. Defendant's turnips had run out, and he had failed to supply himself with sufficient food stuff for the cattle.
