A MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR.

(IIY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, Last Nifiht. A mysterious affair has bean reported to the police. About nine o'clock last night a mailbag, which had been nent from the Covernment buildings at 6 45 p.m. to the General Post-office, was found in the Basin Reserve. Most of its contents' had been opened and examined. It is stated that the mailbrg was taken from the Government buildings by a messenger, who placed it in a cab and went with it to the Post-office. How it got in the Basin Reserve no one seems to know. A large number of letters are stated to be missing. Some are said to have contained money, chiefly in cheques. An investigation of the affair is being made.
