Cambridge, August 22nd, 1898. 23/8 rflO STAND THIS SEASON AT I. iMORRINSVILLE, The Thoroughbred Horse, LEOLANTIS, By Leolinus (imp.)—dam Atlantis (imp)LEOLANTIS is a chestnut horse, ten years old, stands about 16 hands 1 inch, and is strongly built in every way and possessed of gr*at muscular power. As a three-year-old Leolanth easily won the Auckland Guineas of IS9O, of 150sovs, one mile, in 1.47 i, and the same day, one race afterwards, in the Prince of Wales Handicap, one mile and a half, carrying 7st 91b, was just beaten by Cissy, Sst lib 'sister to Trenton), in 2.485. I Q December of the same year, carrying Bst 9lb, he ran a close third in the Auckland Railway Handicap; time, 1.16. The same day he won the Christmas Handicap of 100 sovs. one mile and a quarter, carrying Sst 31b (as a three-year-old), and beating six others; |tiine, 2 12. Next day Leolantis ran third in the Auckland Derby, and was only raced once after that through meeting with a mishap. However, Leolantis during the time he was on the turf proved that he could gallop. This is not to be wondered at when his excellent breeding is taken into consideration. A glance at the following table will qmokly disclose that he comes from a splendid family : ■Stoekwell, 1 Avon 2()00gs& w'n St. Leger St. Legsr .-i Pocahontas |Gleneoe Orlando [Touchstone i Vulture Lady of SH-Velocipede 11. The stock sired by him are big, strong and active colts. His oldest gets are four-year-olds, and one of thfin, Atlantic, won hurdle races at Avondale, Takapuna, aud the Hurdles and a flat race at the late Gisborne meeting. Atlantic and Leo (who broke his leg) are the only horses sired by LeDlantis that have been tried. However, being half-brother to such a stud success as St. Leger should alone be sufficient recommendation for Leolantis, and, together with his size and substance, he should prove invaluable to breeders for gettiug racehorses, cross-country horses, hunters, and a good style of carriage or hackney horse.
