WELCOME TO MR AND MRS JOHN GORDON.

A most successful and enthusiastic entertainment was given by the Hukauui Minstrels in the Hukanui Hali last night. The occasion was to accord a welcome to Mr and Mrs John Gordon and family, who returned by the afternoon train from their trip to the Old Country, and also to say farewell to Mr Meuzies, who has acted as manager of the estate during Mr Gordon's absence. An excellent programme of songs, interspersed with humourous gags and local hits, was then given by Messrs Powell, Forrest and J. Primrose, acting as Johnson, Bones and Tambo respectively. The programme closed with a localised version of " Upidee," expressing the sentiments which led to the gathering being organised. Mr James Primrose gave a stump speech in excellent style, which took immensely.

During an interval Mr and Mrs Gordon, who are looking well after their trip, moved round the hall, and they must have been more than pleased with the hearty reception extended to them on all sides.

Mr Forrest, on behalf of the Committee, expressed their thanks to those who had attended, and after the sumptuous refreshments provided by the ladies had been discussed, dancing was entered on and occupied the young folks' attention for some hours.
