The directors of the Wellington Woollen Manufacturing Company have decided to declare a dividend of 4A pc-r cent, for the half-year, which will make the year's dividend 8 per ceut. The Reverve Fund has been increased by £2720, and the plant and property has beon written down by £4OOO. In giving judgment in the Bakers' dispute in the Arbitration Court to-day, Mr Justice Denniston said the Court was not hearing the dispute for the first time, for practically it had been settled by agreement signed by both sides last year, and the Court felt that as to the main issues it could not make any alteration until the time of that agreement ran our, (November, 1899). The rate of pay under that agreement would be allowed to stand ; also the allowances of 13 loaves per man per week. The Tonks-Isaacs award was really adopted by the Court, with slight variation, that where the employer is a practical baker and employs another man, his bakehouse shall be entitled to an apprentice. Under the agreement it was laid down that an employer must employ two journeymen before he would be entitled to an apprentice. Instead of preference being given Unionists is to employment, the Court in adopting the Tonks-Isaacs award has decided that no discrimination is to be made between Unionists and non-Unionists. Napier, Last Night. Walter King, aged 16 years, whilst working in a sawmill at Palm, was caught in the belt, and dashed against the bench. He died iu the hospital.
