THE HAWKE'S BAY JOCKEY CLUB'S SPRING MEETING. FIRST DAY. TnERE was perfect weather on Tuesday for the openiTig day of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's Spring Meetiug. There was a large attendance and the course was in good order, considering the recent rains. The amount put through the totalisator was £4538. The following are the results : October Handicap.—Douglas, 1 ; Te Hapuku, 2 ; Tirant D'Eau, 3. Won by half a leugth. Time, lmin. 59 1-oth sec, Dividend, £5 12s.
Handicap Hdrdles. Sylvanus, 1 ; Rangipuuehu, 2 : Golden Plover, 3. Won comfortably. Time, 3min. 29 2-sth sec. Dividend, £ls 6s. Hawkk's Bay Gdineas.—Oingo, 1 ; Tigress, 2 ; Altair, 3. All started. Mr Stead's horse was beaten at the railway bend, where Tigress and Oingo came forward, a great race ending in a win for the latter by a length. Time, lmin. 46 4-sth sec. Dividend, £S 16s. Maiden Plate. Lady Lome, 1 ; Esperanza, 2 ; Alionora, 3. Won comfortably. Time, lmin. 32 3-sth sec. Dividend. £7 17s.

The sensation of the day was the win of Jadoo in the Trial Handicap, paying £llO. The results were as follows : TRIAL Handicap.- Jadoo, 1 ; Blood, 2 ; Ahonora, 3. Twelve ran. Won by a length. Time, lm. 555. Dividend, £llO. There were only four tickets on the winner. Maiden Hurdles.—Meerschaum, 1 ; Ruby, 2 ; Barbarossa, 3. Won on the post. Time, 2m. 56 3-sth s. Dividend, £2 12s.
