The area under wheat in Victoria this season shows an increase of no less than '26 per cent. There are now 1,520,000 acres under this grain, as compared with 1,207,000 acres last year, and it ia noteworthy that in the last three years the area under wheat in Victoria has been doubled. At the adjourned meeting at "Wellington, on Thursday, re the Midland Railway, Mr Guinness moved, " That this meeting of Canterbury, Westland and Nelson members are willing to act together in urging the completion of the East and West Coast railway extension from Reefton to Inangahua Junction, and also from Belgrove to Tadmor Valley." An amendment, moved by Mr Graham, " That the Canterbury, Westland and Nelson line be prosecuted," was negatived by 13 votes to 2. Mr Rolleston said it was premature to indicate what parts of the line should be guuo on with, and nothing should be done to interfere with the contract between the company and the colony. An amendment by Mr Joyce, " That the Premier be waited on in order to ascertain the present position as between the Government and the deben-ture-holders," was agreed to with only one dissentieut.
