The Waikato Argus Office, Wednesday. MR W. J. HUNTER'S STOCK AND HOGGET SALES. On Tuesday at Mr W. J. Hunter's Yards about 300 head of cattle were yarded, nearly all of a good quality and in fresh condition. About forty dairy cows were offered, but only a few of a good class, most of them being old and backward, and consequently were dull of sale. Everything sold at moderate prices ; in fact, the tone of the market is downward for dairy cows. Calves and yearlings wera numerous and of good quality, with an upward tendency, over one hundred selling under the hammer, at an advance on ruling prices. Not many grown steers offered, but prices for that class of stock are still W and sales are difficult to effect. About forty head of beef were offered, which sold at fair prices, fully up to Auckland quotations. Mr W. Macky had a nice pen of fat steers in, which sold at £6 16s. The followiug are the quotations :—Dairy cows, from £3 to £4, with little demand; yearlings (mixed sexes), from 24s to 25s ; yearling heifers, 19s ; calves, from 12s 6d to 17s, with a demand for anything of a good quality ; 18-months steers, from £1 10s to £2 2s ; three-year-old steers, in fair condition, £3 ; a few pens of grown steers in fresh condition were passed ; empty cows, from £2 10s to £3 8s ; two year-old steers, £2 lis; empty heifers, 32s ; small fat steers, £4 6s ; fat heifers, £3 128 6d ; do. cows, £4 19s ; good fat steers, from £6 5s to £6 16s. The goodwill of lease of the late Mr Moncrieffs farm, at Kawa, was knocked down to Mr Teasdale, for £lO. Hogget sale : Over 4000 sheep of all classes were yarded, consisting principally of hoggets and full-mouth wethers. Mr Rosborough, of Te Rore. had a line of really good hoggets in, which sold at 10s lid. Messrs Scott Bros., of Kawhia, brought forward a big line of wethers, all in first-class condition, healthy and sound, although wintered on a run. There was a large attendance of the public. The sale was considered a dragging one, and although many of the lots were passed, nearly all changed hands afterwards privately, prices being much about the same as last week. The following are some of the prices : 3 pens longwool hoggets, 10s lid ; 1 pen do., Bs6d ; 1 pen do., 7s ; 1 pen do., 8s 3d ; 2 pens do., 9s 6d ; 1 pen do., 8s 6d ; 1 pen do., 7s lOd ; empty ewes, 10s 6d ; 2 pens hoggets, 8s 6d ; 1 pen wethers, 12s ; a line of 400 wethers, 10s 6d ; 275 crossbred wethers, 10s 6d ; 1 pen do., 9s 7d ; 1 pen do., 8s lid ; ewes and lambs, 95.~ (Ohaupo Correspondent).
