MR J. T. HORNE'S NEW PREMISES.
Visitors to Hamilton during the last few weeks cannot fail to have noticed the handsome brick building in course of construction to the order of Mr J. T. Home, who has been carrying on his business, ever since the fire, in a temporary wooden structure. The new building, which is a two-storied one, contains a shop, refreshment room, and dwelling house of six rooms. The measurement is 29 x 52 feet, and the main portion of the basement is utilised as a shop, 29 x 25 feet, with a fine lofty ceiling 14 feet high ; behind this is a spacious refreshment room, admirably adapted for Mr Home's largely increasing business in this connection. The windows of plate glass are nice and large, while the internal fixtures are all of kauri, set off by turned pillarettes. The brick work has been executed by Mr Fawkes, of Whatawhata, the woodwork was entrusted to Mr Frear, while the plastering was in the hands of Mr Lorrigan, of Auckland, and the work certainly reflects credit upon the trio of tradesmen. In thus departing from the orthodox wooden structure Mr Home has shown considerable enterprise, aud it goes without saying that he, at any rate, is quite confident of the future prosperity of the town, and we sincerely hope that those who intend building in the main street will tollow in his footsteps and endeavour to emulate his example. Mr Home opens in his new shop to day, where he will be pleased to receive old customers and new ones, and we trust that his increased trade will give him no cause to regret the step he has taken in erecting what is, without doubt, an ornament to the town.
