There was a good attendance and the majority of the lots realised fair prices. The Waikato Hunt Club race? will be held on the St. Kilda course, Cambridge, to-morrow. An excellent prolamine has been arranged, and the entries must be considered very satisfactory, and all that is now wanted is a fim' day and the success of the meeting will be assured. A very large gathering is anticipated. On Thursday next, 29th September, Mess's McNicol and Co. (in conjunction with Mr W. J. Hunter) will bold a clearing sale at the lesidence of Mr ,J. D. P. Roche, of Ohaupo, has, during the past week, negotiated the sale of a handy little farm in the Pirougia district, and of a 500-acre farm at Tuhikarame ; the latter was purchased by Mr Teddy, proprietor of the Ohaupo Hotel. Satisfactory prices to the vendors were, in both instances, obtained. It is further gratifying to learn that Mr Roche has other transactions in hand which are in course the completion. Mr Fryberg, the ex-Government timber expert who has been collecting specimens of New Zealand barks with the view of their utilization, states that one of the mountain varieties from the West Coast has wonderful curative effects upon throat complaints. The supply is practically inexhaustible. Mr Fryberg is about to send some large samples to medical specialists in London with a view to a thorough test in a more rigorous climate, and he thinks it may lead to the bark being placed in the British Pharmaccepia, and so create another opening for the undeveloped resources of New Zealand. In connection with the mortality among the cattle throughout the district, and more especially in Hamilton, referred to previously, we learn that there have been several more deaths—no less than eight animals having died in Hamilton sinci Friday. The matter is in the hands of the Stock Department, and yesterday Mr Jno. Kerr secured portions of the stomachs of the animals with a view to submitting them to the Government Veterinary Surgeon, who will be in the district shortly. Mr C.iftcn will come to Waikato to-day to make enquiries into the matter. Our Tuhikaramt-a correspondent refers to numerous cases in his district. For some time past the starting hour of stock sales in this district has been gradually gettiDg later in the day. The reason of it wc cannot see. Many sellers come early in the day with their stock, and the whole of them could, if necessary ; whilst from both buyers' and sellers'point of view it is surely plensanter to reach home before nightfall. We are glad to learn that the next Hamilton cattle sale is to start at 12 o'clock sharp ; to enable buyers to come and return by train same day it is just possible that within the next few months the sale will start at 10 a.m., and this, we believe, would be a step in the right direction. Farmers ! remember next sale at 12 noon sharp.
