Tc Awamutu, September 13, 1898. 15/9 rpO STAND THIS SEASON AT 1 MORRINSVILLE, TIIK TIIORpUGHBRED HORSE, LEOLANTIS, By Leolinus (imp.)—dam Atlantis (imp). Lholantis is a chestnut horse, ten years old, stands about 16 hands 1 inch, ami is strongly built iu every way and possessed of great muscular power. As a three-year-old Leolantia easily won the Auckland Guineas of IS9O, of ISOsovs, one mile, iu 1.4/i, and the same day, one race afterwards, in the Prince of Wales Handicap, one mile and a half, carrying 7s t 91b, was jnsb beaten by Cissy, Sst lib (sister to Trenton), iu 2.43*. In December of the same year, carrying Sst 91b, he ran a close third in the Auckland Railway Handicap: time, 1.16. The same day he won the Christmas Handicap of 100 sovs, one mile and a quarter, carrying Sst 31b (as a three-year-old), and beating six others ; {time, 2 12. Next day Leolantis ran third in the Auckland Derby, and was only raced once after that through meeting with a mishap. However, Leolantis during the time he was on the turf proved that he could gallop. This is nob to be wondered at when his excellent breeding is takeu into consideration. A glance at the following table will qu'okly disclose that he comes from a splendid family : Stockwell, |The Baron Irish Birdea'er (won 2000 gs& w'n St. Legcr Echidna I St. Leger Pocahontas Glencoe Marpcssa Orlando Touchstone Vulture Lady of Sil- Velocipede verkeld Well Emma 11. The stock sired by him are big, strong and active colts. His oldest yets are four-year-olds, aud one of them, Atlantic, won hurdle races at Avondole, Takapuna, and the Hurdles and a flat race at the late Gisborne meeting. Atlantic and Leo (who broke his leg) are the only horses sired by Leolantis that have been tried. However, being half-brother to such a stud success as St. Leger should alone be sufficient recommendation for Leolantis, and, together with his size and substance, he should prove invaluable to breeders for getting racehorses, cross-country horse*, hunters, and a good style of carriage or hackney horse.
