MESSRS McNICOL AND CO.'S SPRING HORSE FAIR.
The above annual fixture takes place at Cambridge next week, and is now so well-known that buyers attend from all parts of the North Island. No actual buyer can attend this sale and go away unsuited, for every class of horse is represented, from the heavy Clydesdale adapted to city work to the short-legged stock horse in use on the hills of the back country. The sale commences on Wednesday, 2lst inst, at 12 o'clock, immediately alter the stallion parade, in the following order : A lot of useful farm implements ; stallions pure Clydesdale three-year-old colt General Gordon, a promising horse by Royal Conqueror ; thoroughbred entire Pionre, descended from the strongest blood in the land, Torpedo—Yatterina ; roadster hackney stallions Merrymaker, by Merrylegs, and Nobleman, by Lord Derby 2nd (417 in Hackney Stud Book); unbroken horses, amongst them a draft of 25 medium draughts and horses adapted for coaching from Galatea Station, HT brand, a brand that, is wellknown, serviceable, good-boned horses that stand everyday work ; the balance of the 75 unbroken horses comprise medium and heavy draughts, colts and fillies by thoroughbred and roadster stallions from the principal breeders in Waikato and neighbouring districts ; 200 unreserved horses are entered ; the reserved number over 400, making a total of well over 600 horses. A feature of the sale will be the large entry of firstclass heavy and medium draught horses, some straight from the breeder, others right out of work and in good order. As this class of horse is in demand all over the colony, we fully expect to see a good attendance of outside buyers ; certainly this sale will furnish the best display of draughts ever seen in Waikato. The large entry of 300 upstanding hacks, light harness and coaching horses comprises a lot of useful stock, and should meet all requirements. The sporting men are not forgotten, as we notice several entries of young stock descended from Wellington Park blood and a few hunters that will carry a man safely across country all day and are capable of winning a really good Hunt Club Steeplechase.
