As a three-year-old Leolantis easily Won the Auckland Guineas of 1890, of loOsovs, one mile, in 1.475, and the same day, one race afterwards, in the Prince of Wales Handicap, one mile and a half, carrying 7st 91b, was just beaten by 'Cissy, Sat lib 'sister to Trenton), in 2.43 J-. In December of the same year, carrying Bst 9lb, he ran a close third in the Auckland Railway Handicap; time, 1.16. The same day he won the Christmas Handicap of 100 sovs, one mile and a quarter, carrying Sst 31b (as a three-year-old), and beating six others; |time, 2 12. Next day Leolantis ran third in the Auckland Derby, and was only raced once after that through meeting with a mishap. However, Leolantis during the time he was on the turf proved that he could gallop. This is not to be wondered at when his excellent breeding is takeu into consideration. A glance at the following table will quickly disclose that he comes from a splendid family : Stockwell, The Baron Irish Hirdea'er [won 2000 gs& w'nSt.Leger Echidna [Orlando Touchstoi Sclina Vulture verkeld Well Emma 11. The stock sired by him are big, btrong and active colts. His oldest gets are four-year-olds, and one of them, Atlantic, won hurdls races at Avondale, Takapuna, aud the Hurdles and a flat race at the late Gisborne meeting. Atlantic and Leo (who broke his leg) are the only horses sired by Leolantis that have been tiied. However, being half-brother to such a stud success as St. Leger should alone be sufficient recommendation for Leolantis, and, together with his size and substance, he should prove invaluable to breeders for gettiug racehorses, cross-couutry horses hunters, and a good style of carriage or hackney horse.
