PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the above Council was held at Morrinsville, on Friday, when there were present :—Councillors Chepmell (in the chair), Harrison, _McCaw, King. Aitkin, Farmer and Gavin. Adjustment of Finance. —The Chairman detailed the result of a Conference between delegates appointed by the Council at last meeting and a committee of the Te Aroha Borough Council, in order to adjust the financial position ns between the Borough and the Council Council. —The action of the Committee was approved, and the county seal was attached to the Deed of Agreement. Goldfields Revenue.—The AYarden's office, Thames, advised that £29 19s lid, representing goldfields revenue for the month ending the 16th July, 189 S, had been placed to the Council's credit. Subsidy on Rates.—The Commissioner of Taxes advised that £153 Is 9d, subsidy due to the Council for the year 1897-9$ had been placed to the Council's credit. Sleepers for Tbasiway.—Cr. Gavin reported having received the following tenders for supply of 300 sleepers for Waiorongomai tramway : P. Snewin & Co., £2B 7s 3d ; E. Jenniugs, £25 12s 6d ; Dierck and Reams, £26 53; R. T. Jar-sen, £l9 10s. Jansen's tender was accepted. Flax-cutting.—Mr Thos. Farmer's - offer of £4 for right to cut flax on chain reserve along Waihou river, was accepted. Morrinsville Cemetery.—Mr Clifford was authorised to erect a small gate, giving access to cemetery, and to put in a set of small pipes across the water table. New Works.—ln accordance with the report of the committee, the Foreman prepared and submitted specifications for the following works in the Gordon locality :—(1) Making cuttings and embankment with 12 chains of road formation near Gage Brown's ; (2) repairing bridge and cutting down the hills, at Gordon ; (3) clearing drains and cutting on Gordon-Waharoa-Road on east side of river ; (4) gravelling Car- * roll's flat, Te Aroha ; (5) easing grade on Donovan's hill, Te Aroha-Gordon Road ; (6) cutting 60 yards of sand between Portion's and McLeod's ; (7) level crossing Monro's creek. Growth on Roads.—The Council having requested the Lauds Department to remove noxious weeds in front of their property at Rangiatea, the Commissioner of Crown Lauds replied that this was a woik which the Government never undertook.—The Council decided to refer this letter to Mr Herries, M.H.R. Accounts. The following accounts were passed for payment : —G. Wattam, £8 14s 2d ; E. Barrett, £2 14s ; W. McLoughlin, £1 16s ; R. Craigie, £3 ; P. Gilchrist, £37 10s ; VV. Souter and Co., £3 8s 3d ; H. Tawharangi, £3 ; G. Mahood, £8 12s 6d ; T. C. Bell, £3 12s.
