CRETAN OUTBREAK.
BRITISH CONSUL MURDERED. MASSACRE OF CHRISTIANS. (liV ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—COPYRIGHT). Athens, September 7. The reported murder of the British Consul at Candia is confirmed. Telegrams from Candia istate that peace has been restored, and that there is a sufficient European force there to quell any further disturbances. During the disturbances the British, German and United States Consulates were burnt. September 3. Lieutenant Haldane, 20th Highlanders, was killed in the emeute in Candia. Fifty men were wounded. Only 250 out of 1000 Christians escaped aboard tho warships. It is feared that the rest have been massacred. The Turkish troops refused to assist the British. The Mahommedan residents are pillaging the town. The vice-Consul was burnt in his own house. London, September 8. Two companies of the Dorsetshire Regiment have been despatched from Malta to Candia.
