MR W. J. HUNTER'S SPRING CATTLE SALE. At Ohaupo, on Tuesday, about 800 head of all classes were yarded, nearly all of a good quality, and, considering the time of year, were in fair condition, dairy cows and young stock predominating ; not many grown steers offering; beef was fairly represented, with a moderate demand ; calves were numerous but dull of aale ; about 70 dairy cows were offered, but only those of a good class sold at ruling prices ; many were passed. The tone of the market was dull, and bidding languid. There was a fair attendance of the public, but, apparently, not many buyers, although considerable business was done privately after the sale was over. The following are the quotations :—Dairy cows, neatprofit, from £3 to £4; old cows, unsaleable; good springing heifers, from £4 to £5 7s ; yearling heifers, from 25s to '26s ; do. steers, 30s ; calves (mixed sexes), from 15s to 20s ; two-year-old steers, £2 3s ; 2$ do., from £2 Ss to £2 17s 6d : grown steers, from £4 to £5 3s; stacs, from £3 to £4 ; empty cows, from £2 3s to £2 lls;~do. in fresh condition, from £3 4s to £3 17s ; beef fat cows, £4 ; small fat steers, from £5 to £5 14s. Sheep: About 450 were yarded, for which there was a fair demand, all selling under the hammer. Wethers, 9s ; a li n e of 250 empty ewes, many of them fat, 9s 9d ; ewe 3 and lambs, 9<j 4d.—(Own Correspondent.) HAWERA MARKETS. The Egmont Farmers' Union report: —At Stratford, on the 26th ultimo, about the average number of stock came forward, most of which showed signs of the severe weather, no improvement on late prices. "We quote :—Dairy cows and heifers, £2 10s to £6 ; heifers, in calf, £2 to £5 15s ; two to two and a-half year-old steers, £2 to £2 12s 6d ; 12 to IS-months steers, £1 4s to £1 Us ; store cows, £1 Is to £1 lis 6d ; weaners, 9s to 13s 6d. We held our monthly horse fair on the 27th ult., when a large number of firstclass hoises were submitted, draughts in particular. Bidding for draughts and harness horses was keen. We quote : Draughts, £l9 to £34 15s ; unbroken draughts, £l2 15s to£24; harness horses, £6 5s to £l7 10s ; hacks, £2 to £ll ss. At the Glover Road Yards on Wednesday, a very large entry of both cattle and sheep came forward. Bidding lor beef and dairy stock was animated, whilst stores were hard to place. There was a fair competition for sheep, although iu most case 3 owners' reserves were not reached. Eat bullocks, £4 18s to £5 10s 6d ; fat cows, £3 17s 6d to £5 10s ; forward bullocks, £4 4s to £4 12s ; three year-old steers, £3 to £3 12s ; two yearold steers, £1 ISs to £2 4s 6d ; bmpty cows, £1 4s to £1 16s; yearlings (mixed), 18s 6d to £1 Is ; dairy cows, £4 to £7 10s ; heifers, springing, £3 to £5 5s ; weaners, 10s to 13s 6cl. Sheep : Hoggets, 5s 5s to 8s 6d ; dry ewes, 5s 9d to 6s 3d.
