PATERANGI.
Milk Suppliebs' Meeting.—A meeting of suppliers whs held here on the 30th inst., to consider the rules of the Union and also sign them and thus become members. Nearly all the suppliers were present, but beyond discussing the rules nothing was done. The creamery opened on the Ist instant with a rather larger supply than was expected, as three or four suppliers from the northern end of the district will not send this season. Social Gathering.—On Wednesday a very enjoyable social was held in the Hall. Mr J. J. Ryburn. the popular Captain of the Paterangi Football Club, invited all the members of the Club, their sisters aud cousius to spend an evening with him, and over forty young people responded. The hall was tastefully decorated with ferns and flowers ; at one end of the room the piano and organ were almost hidden with thsse, and at the other was a table laden with a choice supper and one for cards. Miss Ryburn, as hostess, deserves great praise foi the arrangement of the hall and the provision for the inner mau. The proceedings commenced with a waltz, after which Mr Ryburn, in a neat little speech, gave a short sketch of the progress the club had made during the two years it had been in existence, and hoped is would continue. He maintained that football had a good effect on the young, botli physically and morally, while it developed the body and muscle, it taught the player to control his temper. He was pleased to see their President, Mr Germann, with them ; they were indebted to him for the use of his paddock, and also the interest that he took m their sport; they were also indebted to the ladies, who, besides providing refreshments on various occasions, frequently attended their matches, and, by their kind interest and sympathy, assisted them in various ways. In conclusion, he hoped they would all enjoy themselves. Readings, sougs, and recitations, interspersed Avith dances, filled up a pretty good programme. Miss E. Macky gave a very humorous reading faom " Many Cargoes," as did also Mr C. S. Macky. Mr F. Ryburn gave a recitation, and Mr A. Hall read " Our Guide in Rome," aud Miss Kay gave " When Father Carves the Duck." Mr John Kay gave two versions of the song " On the Ball," the club joining heartily in the chorus. Miss Germann sang " White Wings;" Mr W. Germann " Love's Serenade." The President, in thanking Mr Ryburn for his kind invitation, hoped they would all enjoy themselves, after which the members of the club gave him three rousing cheers and a "tiger." The party broke up soon after midnight, having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Hearty cheers were given for the host and hostess. Mctlul Improvement Class.—There was only a small attendance of members on Thursday, partly owing to the previous evening's dissipation. Mr Ryburn, senr., occupied the chair. Mr Robert Kay read " Recollections of a Trip to Australia," which was very interesting, showing also what an excellent memory Mr Kay must have to give a description of the voyage, the sights he saw in the cities, on the golurields aud in the coA try after a lapse of 27 years. Mr immann then read a paper on " Co-opera-tion," in which he showed the good which may result from uuion and also to some extent the evil Band of Hop*?.—An entertainment by the Paterangi Band ot Hope was given in the hall on Saturday evening, which was well attended, the hall being crowded. A collection was made in aid of Dr. Barnardo's Homes, which amounted to over £4.—(Own Correspondent).
