SOUDAN CAMPAIGN.
BATTLE OF OMDUR MA N. DERVISHES ROUTED. (BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—COPYRIGHT.) Cairo, September o. KErrEL's gunboats demolished all the fort 3 on Tuli Island and ou the right bank, capturing four guns. There were no British casualties. The dome of the Mahdi's tomb and the mosque at Omdurman were partially destroyed. Thirty five thousand Dervishes are outside the city awaiting the arrival of General Kitchener's forces. September 4. Tho Khalifa with his entire force advanced three miles and made a bold and determined attempt to envelop the British flanks ; but was repulsed atter one hour's lighting. The attack was subsequently renewed, when General Kitchener advanced and again repulsed the dervishes with heavy loss, the latter being completely dispersed. Omdurman was occupied after slight resistance. The Khalifa fled, and the cavalry and gunboats are pursuing the retreating dervishes. (Received Sept. 5, 10 a.m.) Cairo, September 4. Lieut. R. S. Greenfell, 12th Lancers, and Captain Coldecott, of the Yorkshire Regiment, were the only British officers killed at Omdurman. Greenfell fell leading a brilliant charge of the 12th Lancers, who lost 21 killed and 20 wounded.
