Maize, per bushel: Wholesale, 3s 2d to 3s 3d ; retail, 3s 6d to 3s 7d. MR W. J. HUNTER'S SPECIAL HORSE SALE. Our Cambridge correspondent wired yesterday :—Mr W.J. Huoter's sale was a grand success. Buyers were present from Christchurch, Wanganui, Kaipara, Te Aroha, Waihi, Rotorua, and all parts of the Waikato. There was a great demand for light draughts. Any quantity of good heavy draughts could have been placed, but were not obtainable. Nearly every horse offered was sold. The following were the prices :-Heavy draughts, £25 to £35; light draughts, £l4 to £26 ; good hacks, £lB to £25 ; buggv horses, £lO to £18; ponies, £2 to £5 ss"; unbroken colts, medium draughts, £ll to £l3: yearlings, £6 to £B. No heavy colts were offered. AUCKLAND MARKETS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Comvany (Limited) report:—Auckland Wool Stores, 31st August. Our catalogue on Tuesday was a very large one. Hides : The market was easier. We sold prime stout ox, to 6|d ; heavy stout, 4£d to s|d ; medium, 3£d to 4}d ; light, 3J-d to 3|d ; cow, 3£d to 3j*d ; extra prime, 3-J-d ; kip, 3d to 3id ; calf, 3d to 2d. Sheepskins : About the same level as last week. Picked, 6s 5d ; large, 4s to 4s 6d ; medium, 3s to 3s 9d ; small, 2s 6d to 2s 9d. Tallow, 15s 3d to 16s 3d cwt. Oats : Quotations from the South this week are 2s 3d and 2s 4d. C and B, f.0.b., equal to 23 Gd aud 2s 7d, c.i.f Chaff: The market is firm at £4 7s 6d and £4 10s at the railway ; £4 ss, ex store. Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons' Weekly Report.—At the Haymarket, meadow hay brought from 3s 9d to 4s ; pressed-hay. 4s 6d to 5s ; oaten chaff, 4s 9d ; wheat straw chaff, 2s 6d cwt; wheat straw, 20s to 33s the load ; carrots, 25s to 265; swedes, 265; Derwent seed potatoes, £6 10s; other kinds, £8; bonedust, £6 10s to £7 ss; guano, £3 10s; potato manure, £7; bran, £4 the ton; maize, 2s 8d to 2s lOd; white tartar, 2s lOd to 3s 4d ; feed oats, 2s 9d ; ryegrass, 4s 6d the bushel; maize, on wharf, 2s 7d the bushel. On Friday horse stock yarded numerously, sold freely throughout; prices for draught stock were from £l2 to £3O 10s; riding and light harness horses, £3 to £8 each. On Tuesday, hides in moderate supply were at lower values. Sound ox hides were from 2fd to 4d ; cow hides, 2id to 3d ; calf skins, 2.}d to 3d the lb; horse hides,'3s 3d and 3s 6d each ; tails, Is 3d the doz ; hair, 10£d ; fat, ljd the lb j tallow, 15s 9d to 18s the cwt. Sheepskins in full supply improved in value; fresh skins were mostly trom 2s 9d to 4s 8d ; dry skins, 2s to 3s 6d each. At Remuera, on Thursday, not many dairy cows yarded. Those at profit brought from £3 7s 6d to £6 10s each. Calves in usual number (65 sold), were at late values. Fat cattle in full number (240 yarded), were dull of sale ; prices realised were from 17s to 19s the 1001 b ; steers were from £6 to £8 15s ; cows, £3 15s to £5 17s 6d ; sheep, short of usual number (1200 yarded), were steady at last week's values : wethers ranged from 12s to 17s ; ewes, 9s 6d to 143; lambs in moderate number (49 yarded), brought frr.i 8s 9d to 13s 6d each. Pigs, in short supply (36 sold.) Choice-bred porkers were from 16s 6d to £1 8s each; ill-bred pigs at low values. Messrs. Hunter and Noias's Report.— Horsefeed, seed, grain, etc. : Maize on wharf is selling at 2s 9d bushel, to 3s ex store ; feed oats,2s Sd to 2s lOd ; seed oats, 3s 2d to 3s 3d ; bran, £3 15s to £4 ton. At the special sale of Southern chaff, 1000 sacks made from £4 83 to £4 10s ton. Horses : At the Durham Yards on Friday, horses were yarded more numerously than for some weeks, and met a steady sale, especially for heavy aud medium draught horses. Heavy draughts sold at from £l6 to £27 > 10s each ; medium draughts, £l2 to £2O ; light harness, £3 10s to £ll 10s ; hacks, £3 to £lO 15s. Wool, hides, skins and tallow ; A large catalogue was gone through, and disposed of at last week's rates. Stout ox sold at from 4d to 4§d lb ; medium ox, to 3ifd ; cow and steers, 2.U1 to 3>d ; damaged cow and steers, LUI to 2d "; stags, )4d to 2d ; calfskins, 2d to 3»d. Bones, £3 15s ton. Cattle : At the Newmarket Yards onJTuesday, dairy and store stock was yarded in large minibus, and beef was plentiful. Prices for fat oxen were steady throughout at from 18s to 20s 1001 b ; cow, 16a to ISs. Stsers sold at from £4 17s 0:1 to £8 12s 6d each ; cows, £3 to £5 12a 6d ; dairy cows brought from £2 10s to £5 10s ; dry cows, £1 5s to £2 7s 6d ; grown steers, £3 10s to £4 10s ; two to three-vear-okl steers, £2 10s to £3 ; calvesj 153 to 255.
