(by telegraph—press association). Wellington, Last Night. Mr S. Brown*, President of the Industrial Corporation of New Zealand, has forwarded a letter to Mr Morrison, M.11.R , in reference to a statement attributed to him in the House that not 25 of Hie New Zealand trained engineers could hold their own in the English shops. The letter contains a statement from the heads of a number of engineering firms in the colony traversing Mr Morrison's accusation and calling upon him to withdraw it publicly.

The Conciliation Board this afternoon delivered an award as to the dispute in the baking trade. It is directed that an industrial agreement embodying the terms of the Arbitration Court's award of 3rd February last be drawn up between the parties and that there be added to it a clause providing a penalty of £lO, recoverable in the Magistrate's Court for any breach of the agreement. If such agreement is not tiled within seven days the Chairman is to file a report that the Board has tailed to bring about a settlement. Mr Hogg, on behalf of the Bakers' Union, accepted the award. Mr MeFarland said he had personally no intention of breaking the award, but he could not speak for his Union. The Education Board has decided to adopt a system of military drill, and discontinue all other forms of drill except clubs and wands. liie medals and certificates awarded by the Royal Humane Society of Australasia for bravery in this colony have been received by tiie Society's representative here. The awards are eight in number, comprising one silver medal, five bronze medals and two certificates of merit.
