ALPINE FATALITY.

(BY ELECTRIC telegraph—copyright). Berne, August 30. Another Alpine fatality has occurred. Dr. John Hopkinson, the celebrated electrical engineer, his son and two daughters wore ascending the peak Dent Devisivi, when they were overwhelmed by an avalanche, and all perished. (Received August 31, 9.15 a.m.) London, August 30.

Edison and many other scientists lament the death of Dr. Hopkinson. Later reports show that the party were making the ascent without the assistance of guides. They were roped together, but one slipped and dragged the others down.
