Tub Govkhsmext and tiik Natives. —A good deal of righteous indignation is expressed by many of the poor natives in this district, particularly those who live along the I'uniu some miles above here, right?down to the Waipa. at the heartless manner in which they have been treated by the Government. Many of them have applied through the Government Native Agent (Mr Wilkinson) for a small supply of potato and other seed to plant; as, owing to the late disastrous season, they are entirely without any seed, or the means to purchase same; but in all eases, I understand, their applications have been refused. It certainly seems very hard on the poor Maoris, as the help applied for would not altogether amount to a very large sum. It would be interesting to know what, becomes of the £7OOO annually voted by Government for indigent natives,—(Own Correspondent.)
