AUCKLAND MARKETS.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report:—Auckland Wool Stores, 17th August.—We had an extra large offering of hides and Bkins at our Bale on Tuesday. Hides were about same level of prices as last week, there being better competition, however, for sound, wellflayed lines. We quote : Prime stout ox, 5Jd to 6d lb ; heavy stout, 4jd to 3Jd ; cow, best lines 3±d to 3£d, scored and sloppy Jd to id less ; calf, 3d to 4d ; kip, 3d to 3|d; stags, l£d to Sheepskins : Good competition. Large sold 3s 9d to 4s each ; small and medium, 2s 6d to 3s 6d. Tallow, hair, horns, bones, etc. : No change. Oats : The Southern market is very much stronger, and has risen 2d a bushel, in consequence of which the prices have adyanced here to 2s and 2s 7d bushel, c.i.f., for wholesale lines. Chaff: No alteration in last week's prices, viz , £4 5s to £4 7s 6d ton at rail ; £4 12s 6d to £4 15s ex Btore. Maize: Heavy shipments have arrived during the week, and a fall of Id to 2d bushel took place. Prices to-day are 2s 9d on wharf, 2s lid ex store. Messes Hcnter and Nolan's Report.— Horsefeed, seed, grain, etc. : Maize on wharf is selling at 2s 8d to 2s lOd bushel, ex store 3s : feed oats, 2s lOd ; seed oats, 3s 3d to 3s 4d ; bran, £3 15s to £4 ton ; chaff, good oaten, at station, £4 ss, ex store £4 15s ; inferior chaff, £3 to £3 15s. Horses : At the Durham Yards, on Friday, horses were aeain brought forward in small numbers, and, with the exception of good draught and plough horses, which are wanted, Bhowed no rise in prices. Heavy draughts ranged from £l2 10s to £25 each ; medium draughts, £lO 5b to £l7 10s ; light harness draughts, £3 10s to £ll 10s ; hacks, £2 10s to £9 5s ; weeds, 15s to £1 10s. Wool, hides, skins and tallow : A large catalogue was gone through. Stout ox hides sold from 4d to 4Jd lb (no prime offered) ; cows and steers, 2|d to 3sd ; stags, l£d to 24d ; damaged hides, l£d to 2id ; kips, 3}d to 3Jd ; calfskins, 2d to 3£d ; bones, £3 10s to £3 15s ton ; tallow, 14s 6d to 15s cwt; rough fat, Id to l£d lb ; sheepskins, picked 4b 8d to 5s 9d each, ordinary Is 6d to 4s 3d ; pelts, 8d to Is 4d. Cattle : At the Newmarket Yards, on Tuesday, dairy cows were yarded in? small numbers, and Bold at from £3 to £5 5s each. Fat stock, in full numbers, showed a decline in prices on laHt week's quotations, although towards the end of the sale prices rallied considerably. Ox beef made from 19s to 22s 1001 b ; cow, 16a to 18s. Steers sold at from £5 10s to £8 17s 6d each ; fat cows, £4 2s 6d to £6 10s. Sheep : The Newmarket Yards were well filled on Tuesday, and bidding was very brisk. We quote :—Wethers, from lis 9d to 18s 9d, one line of 120 wethers from Waikato avoraging 18s 2d ; ewes sold at from 10s 9d to 14s 3d ; hoggets, lis 9d to 12s 3d. Pigs : More plentiful than for some weeks. Porkers made from 14s 9d to 25s each ; bacon pigs, £1 15s to £2 5s ; rough store pigs from 3s 6d to 8s Bd. Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons' Weekly Report.—At the Hay market, meadow hay has brought 4s 9d and 5s the cwt; straw, 16s to 303 the load. Chesterfield guano selling in increased quantities at £3 10s; Biggs' bonedust, £6; pressed hay, large bales, £4 10s; small bales, £5 ; lucerne hay, £4 10s; oaten chaff, £5 ; carrots, 30s ; potatoes, £6los to £8 ton; feed o<»ts, 2s 6d; maize, 2s lOd ; Dun oats, 3s ; wheat, 5s 3d bushel; maize on wharf, 2s 8d bushel. Ou Friday horse stock in moderate supply kept their values. Medium to heavy draught brought from £l2 to £23 5s ; light harness, £4 to £7 ; a Courcland waggon, £ll ; harness, £3 ; saddle, 335. On Tuesday hides were at late values. Ox hides ranged from to 4d ; cow hides, 2jd to 3Jd. Calf skins were lower and brought from 2d to 3d lb ; bones, 3s fid ; tallow, 14s to 15s 6d cwt: fat, l|d lb. Sheepskins at previous values. Greenskins from 2s 6d to 4s 9(1 ; dry skins, Is 4d to 3a 7d each ; scoured locks, 3d to 4^l; pieces, 2sd to 4£d lb. At I'okeuo on Monday, and Drury on Wednesday, cattle were in moderate number, mostly dairy cows and heifers, with a fair number of bulls and lat cows. Dairy cows were from £3 to £5 ss; fat cows, £3 to £5 10s; bulls, from £1 to £3 7s 6d ; calves, 13s to £1 6s each. At Rcmuera on Thursday, dairy cows, in usual number, were at late values. Useful cows at profit were from £4 to £5 5s each ; calves, in average number, 60 sold, were required, and fully kept late values ; fat cattle in usual supply, 240 yarded, sold irregularly, in some cases 103 lower than last week ; values were from 16s to 20s the 1001 b ; steers ranged from £6 to £lO ; cows, £4 15s to £5 12s fid each, 30 passed. Fat sheep iu average number, 1350 sold, were firm at last week's values ; wethers ranged from Ss 6d to 17s 9d ; ewes, lis to 13s 9d ; hoggets, 2s 3d to !)s 3d each ; three pens this season's lumbs brought 14s each. Pigs, numerous, 150 fcold, scarcely kept last week's values, yet prices were nevertheless satisfactory to the severs.
