(by electric telegraph.—copyright). Washington, August IS. Martial law is observed in Manila, and perfect order prevails.
Tbe rebel forces are not allowed to enter the city unless unarmed. The Americans captured 12,000 rifles and much ammunition.
It is astimuted that 1.30 Spanish soldiers were killed and 300 wounded.
It is reported that the insurgent leader Aguinaldo attacked the Americans after the surrender of the town, but the assault was easily suppressed. Tho American press is indignant at Germany helping General Auguste to escape.
Madrid, August 17
Reports from Manila state that 7000 Spaniards surrendered after the Americans captured the to\VD.
OUTRAGE IN PUERTO RICO. Washington, August 18. It is reported that the Spanish troops after evacuating Ciales, in Puerto Rico, returned and tore the American flag which the inhabitants had hoisted, and killed 90 persons.
