SHAM LIBERALS.

TO THE EDITOB. Slßj—Some ten years ago (more or less) I wrote in the then Waikato newspaper that if any Scotchman in any district had it thrown in his teeth that the Scotch were fond of bawbees, if he returned the taunt by comparing all residents in his district as to their fondness for bawbees, never again would he hear of Scotchmen and bawbees, and for evermore that subject would be tabooed and avoided. In like manner, when any truly Liberal mau is assailed by any sham Liberal, no matter where and when, if the true Liberal takes and compares the whole residents of his district as to their doings in their personal dealings, he (the true Liberal) will for evermore squash and shut up the sham Liberal. As man is constituted, and till he is (if erer) evolved into a higher state of having a logical mind, he is, less or more, biassed in his ideas by personal interest, and personal interest has a great deal to do with personal honesty. I do not limit the word honesty to what would bring a man to prison; a man may be more dishonest and keep from the lash of the law than one who does get to " chokey." Unfortunately, the more one is of a New Zealand Liberal, the less has he of a logical mind, and, as a natural consequence, the more is he possessed of the dishonesty which goes hand in hand with not seeiug beyond one's own nose, .-I am, etc., " Hakafkpe.
