POUNDAGE EXPENSES.
TO TnE EDITOR. Sir,—l noticed in your paper on Saturday morning that at the meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council held on Friday night Mr Bettley wrote, complaining that he had been charged 14s poundage on a heifer for one night, which I pounded. Now, Mr Editor, Mr Bettley has got away from the truth, as I pounded the heifer on Thursday night at 8.30 p.m. and advertised it in the Saturday morning's Argus, and at 10.30 that morning Mr Bettley came over and recognised it as his property and released it. He asked me to leave it in the yard until Suuday morning, for which he was not charged anything extra, and I also obliged him by driving the heifer to his yard at Plankton, for which I did not receive any payment. The fees and poundage are as follows : Mileage, 2s ; feed, 3s ; advertising, (js ; notice for advertising, 2s Od ; poundage, 6d ; total, 143. Trustiug this will satisfy the public that Mr Bettley was not overcharged, and that he was treated very fairly in the matter, —I am, etc., James Devitt, Poundkeeper.
