MORE DENIALS. HOOLEY THRASHES A MAN. (BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT). London, August 13. The examination in bankruptcy of E. T. Hooley was resumed yeetorday at the London Bankruptcy Court beforo Mr Justice Wright, when an application was made to His Honor to commit Lord Do la Warr. and Messrs Rucker, Broadley, andßroadbent for contempt of court in asking the bankrupt to amond his evidence by denying that he had paid them sums of money in connection with the flotation of certain companies in which Hooley was interested. During the proceedings the bankrupt produced a compromising letter written to him by Lord De la Warr. The application was adjourned. In addition to those already named several other persons have made statements on oath before rho Registrar of the Bankruptcy Court denying Hooley's charges of bribery. A sensation was caused by a street altercation between Hooley and young Lawson Johnston, whose futber's name was; mentioned by the bankrupt in his evidence as one of those to whom inoney was paid in connection with the floating of the Bovril Company. Johnston met Hooley, and threatened if he made any further disclosures regarding his father he would retaliate by making exposures in- reference to Mrs Hooley's funds, whereupon Hooley thrashed him with his walk-ing-stick. Young Johnston's conduct was brought under notice of the Registrar of the Bankruptcy Court, who was at first inclined to order his prosecution for endeavouring to intimidate the baukrupt, but eventually accepted an apology tendered by the offender.
