WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Waipa County Council was held at the Council Chambers, Ohaupo, on Tuesday. There were present:—Crs. W. H. Mandeno (chairman). Ed. Allen, Scott, S. Steele, R. Fullerton. P. J. Vickers, 6. Totty, R. Bell and J. B. Tcasdale. Jolly's Drain'.—As Mr W. H. Cowley wrote objecting to Mr Jolly's proposal to open a drain near his residence at Frankton, Cr. Teasdale proposed and Cr. Fullerton seconded, that Mr Jolly should not be allowed to interfere with the road without the permission of the Council.— Carried. CONFERENCE DELEGATE.—Mr F. W. Lung, M.H R., wrote forwarding a copy of the order paper of the Conference of the delegates of the County Councils, and asking for the Waipa Council's opiuion upon the matters it contained. He also asked for information regaiding the striking of Charitable Aid Board rates, and other matters connected with the Council. —The Chairman said he had written to Mr Lang giving him the desired information. Chairman's Report.—ln his report the Chairman stated that the roads between Te Awamutu and Kihikihi and the Whatawhata S>vamp Road were in a most unsatisfactory condition. Unless the weather cleared the approaches to the Koromatua Bridge would have to be fascined before the milk traffic commenced. He suggested that if funds would permit it, a contract should be let for the maintenance of the Whatawhata Swamp Roard for a term of years.— The Councillors all thought the idea a good one, and the Chairman was requested to furnish fuller information at the September meeting of the Council, He further reported that Mawhinney had opened up Whatawhata (A) Drain right down to the creek, and expected to have his contract completed by next meeting. Mr Hursthouse had received instructions toiuspect both the Hamilton and Cambridge bridges very shortly, and had written to him (the chairman) to arrange a meeting.—The report was approved of. Pukekijka Cemetery.—The Lands and Survey Department wrote stating that the Waipa Council had been appointed trustees of the Pukekura Cemetery, Part section I—Lot 12, Pukekura, by the Governor on December 20th, 1884.—The Clerk was instructed to again communicate with the Department, and explain that, the Lot the Council argued about was No. 192, Parish of Ngaroto, and there was evidently some confusion between the Pukerimu and Pukekura cemeteries. PirES.—The Chairman was asked to report upon the road from Corboy's residence to the Te Kowhai creamery at next meeting, but in the meantime Cr. Fullerton was authorised to repair a broken set of pipes and the water-table. Naubs' Road.—Messrs Daley and Nabbs asked for permission to open up an old drain on the property adjoining, in order to improve the road.—This matter was left to Crs. Teasdale and Bell to arrange. Waipa Bridge Continuation.—The Clerk of the Ngaruawahia Town Board wrote stating that Lhe Board had guaranteed the Council's share of the cost of the bridge, and Mr Mueller had applied for the amount.—The Board asked that the Council should pay their share out of ordinary revenue until the loan money was available, in order to remove the pressure from the Board.—The Council decided to give the matter full consideration. Bills. —The Chairman said he had received copies of the Noxious Weeds and the Slaughtering and Inspection Bills from Mr Lang.—A short discussion followed, after which the Chairman proposed, and Cr. Scott seconded, that a reply be sent to Mr Lang stating that the Council considered the Bills too cumbersome and expensive to work, —This was carried without dissent. Rate.—The Council decided to strike the following rates : A general rate of §d in the £ in the Ridings of Rangiaohia, Pukekura, Newcastle, Tuhikaramea and Pirongia outlying district; and |d in the £ in the Mangapiko and Hamilton Ridings ; a separate rate of fd in the £ in the outlyiug districts of Mangapiko, Hamilton and Pirongia. Accounts. The following accounts were passed for payment:—Treasury, £22 12s 6(1 ; Auditor's fee, £2 13s 4d ; W. Vickers, £4 lis Id ; P. Cooper, £2l 13s 3d (subject to revision) ; W. Taylor, £4 18s 4d ; W. Mawhinney, £3 14s 3d ; W. Fox, £3 14s 3d; J. Frear, £2 4s 9d ; Bearsley and Bygrave, £G 7s ; K. Morrison, £6 9s 2d ; A. Swarbrick, £3 4s Sd ; R. Waite, £22 lis ; Waikato Akgos, £5 15s 9d ; Chairman (expenses), £lO 53; W. Souter and Co., £l2 3s. Unclaimed Lands. —ln accordance with his instructions, the clerk presented a list of unclaimed lands as shown on the new valuation roll, as follows :—Hamilton, 21 acres; Rangiaohia, SI acres; Te Awamutu, 3 roods 20 perches ; Kihikihi Town District, 5 acres ; Pukekura, 5 acres; Tuhikaramea, 80 acres; Newcastle Riding, 250 acres ; Newcastle Town District, 3 roods 27 perches; Mangapiko, 537 acres.—lt was proposed by Cr. Steele and seconded by Cr. Bell, that these lands should be placed in the hands of the Public Trustee.—Carried unanimously. Lrasing Reserves. —The members of the MaDgapiko Riding were appointed a committee to arrange for the lease of all lands vested in the county. Rotorangi Swamp Road.—lt was decided, on the recommendation of the chairman, to have about 100 chains of drain on the Rotorangi Swamp Road cleared out at a cost of 2s per chain, Mr Park to contribute half the cost of the work. Safe.—The Council agreed to remove the safe from the council chambers to the clerk's office at Te Awamutu, in order that the hooks ot the Council might be protected in case of fire. Proi'osed Works.—At the request of the chairman, the members put in particulars of the works most urgently required in the various districts, in order that an early start may be made in the Spring. SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting was held for the purpose of confirming the resolutions passed at the meeting held on J uly 12th, relating to the striking of a special rate over the whole county for tke payment of interest on the loan for the construction of the Waipa Bridge and enacting bye-laws.—This was unanimously agreed to.
