RUSSIA AND PERSIA.
(BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT). London, August 6. MR G. H. Curzon, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, has stated in the House of Commons that the Persian loan was abandoned by the bank, a British institution, because they were not prepared to advance so large a sum. He had no information regarding the reported threats by Russia, but rumours had reached hitn that Russia desired to lease a port on the Persian Gulf. He could not say if the rumours were true.
