CABLE SUMMARY
Thk Prince of Wales has been safely transferred to Cowes, in the Isle of Wight. The sugar planters in British Guiana are appealing tor Imperial aid pending the adoption of countervailing duties as a check to the bounties system. The South Wales eoalowners have definitely refused to concede the miners' demands beyond the renewal cf the oli sliding scale and an immediate advance of 5 per cent, in wages. Germany has advised the Sultan to acquiesce in the action of the Powers prohibiting Turkey sending reinforcements of troops to Crete. The Pope has urged the Roman Archbishop of Scotland to use greater exertions to convert Scotland. It is reported that a syndicate is making arrangements to purchase the Egyptian railways for £'25,000,000. The yacht Emerald, recently purchased by Lord Brassey, won a race at the Southampton Regatta. It was steered by Lord Brassey, and defeated the cracks Forella and Eileen. King Alphonso, who was lately unwefjp is better. The Prince of Wales is likely to remain on board the Royal yacht Osborne for two months.
