AUCKLAND NEWS.
(BY TELEUKAI'H —PRESS ASSOCIATION). Auckland, Last Night. R.M.S. Alameda left for Sydney at 4 p.m. The Rotoiti for the South, with the 'Frisco mail, left the Manukau Heads at 2 p.m. The Alameda, when coming up the harbour, collided with the ketch Huon Belle near the railway wharf. The mail steamer was under control of Pilot Sainty, and the engines had been stopped some time before the accident occurred. She [was making about two knots per hour. The Huon Belle was wearing out of Mechanics' Bay into the Quay-street breastwork. She was struck on the starboard quarter, with the result that her bulwarks were smashed, the top sides and stringers splintered, and the topmast broken short off. The vessel, which was not making any water, was towed to the wharf. The Collector of Customs will make an investigation. The Waikare reached Apia at 3 p.m. on Sunday, '24th July, after a rapid passage of ,'fonr days from Raiatea Three days were spent at Papeete and two days at Raiatea. The passengers were highly delighted with the attractions of these places and Apia, and with the attention shown by many of the residents and natives. All speak enthusiastically of the completeness of arrangements for theircomfortand amusement on board the Waikare, and so far they have had quite an ideal excursion. Three days were to be spent in Apai, and the ship sails at midnight on the 27th for Vavan, Nukualofa and Auckland, where she is expected to arrive early on Saturday morning.
