KIHIKIHI.
PEoroSED Volunteer Corps.—On Saturday night last a meeting was held here for the purpose of forming a volunteer corps in this district There was not a very large attendance, but considerable interest was taken, and the names of about twenty intending members were mentioned. "It was decided to adjourn the meeting until Wednesday evening. An effort is to be made to secure, the presence and help of Capt. Rcid, of Hamilton. .School Committee. The usual monthly meeting of the Kihikihi School Committee was held ou Wednesday last. Present: Messrs Bryant, Thomson, Clark, Ogle and Wilson.—Mr Bryant presided.—ln connection with the circular from the Hamilton West Committee re drill in schools, and the suggested appointment by the Government of Capt. Reid, of Hamilton, as drill instructor for the Waikato district schools, it was resolved that the secretary reply, stating the committee's approval of the compulsory clause in the Education Act as to military drill in schools being carried out, but that they did not favour the appointment of Capi. Reid_, as they had men in their own ueiglfbourhood competent to act if required. Tow> Boabd.—The monthly meeting of the Town Board was held on Friday. Piesent: Commissioners Tristram (Chairman), Elmsly, Dinneen and Corboy. Th'e following resolutions were passed : —(L) lhat a rate of fd in the £on all rateable property be struck ; (2) that Mr McDonnell be granted the pine trees growing near his house, in return for work to be pointed out by two members of the Board ; (3) that the Board obtain the services of a competent man to inspect the house occupied by Mr Cnmpstone, the property of the Board, and to give an estimate of the cost of needed repairs, which will be pointed out by two of the commissioners; (4) that Commissioner Dinneen be authorised to employ a man to clean watertables and effect necessary repairs in several streets; (5) that tenders be called for repairs to town saleyards, separate tenders to be invited for labour only and for labour and material, returnable at next meeting. Commissioners Corboy and Elmsly were appointed to show the work. The following accounts were passed for payment : Waikato Argus, £6 ISs; R. Mainwaring, £6 lis; Jas. Kennedy, £1 3s; J. Elmsly, £1 Os 3d; J. R. Anderson, 13s 6d ; B. McDonnell, 5s ; R. Bnckworth, 2s 6d ; total, £l6 13s 3d. —(Own Correspondent).
