TE AWAMUTU TOWN BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Thursday evening last. There were present :—Messrs J. L. Mandeno (chairman), Geo. Ahier, T. Gibson and J. B. Teasdale. Valuation Roll.—A letter was received from the Valuer General, stating that a copy of the Waipa county roll made by the Clerk for the Towu Board, would not be a valid valuation roll. That every roll for local authorities rating on the capital or the unimproved be supplied by the Valuer General. Further, that it would be impossible for the Commissioner of Taxes to certify to subsidy on rates collected on the invalid roll, and that the only charge for the roll will be the copying expenses. Subsidy.—The usual form of declaration with regard to the Government subsidy was received. Rate.—lt was resolved that the usual notice of intention to strike a rate be advertised. The amount of the rate decided on was Jd in the £. Works.—Resolved that the necessary work required iu Redoubt-street be let to Mr Bearsley on his old tender. Pound.—Decided to comply with the pound keeper's request re the rent of the pound. Accounts.—The following accounts were passed for payment :—Bearsley and Bygiave, £7 4s 6d ;R. Brown, 17s 3d ; J. Walton, £1 19s 4d ; auditor, £1 6s 8d; T. Smith, 7s 6d. Bank. —The credit balance at the bank at date of meetiug, £35. Hall Committee.—A meeting of the Public Hall Committee was held immediately after the Board's meeting, Mr G. Ahier presiding. Library Entertainment.—An application was received from the chairman ot the Library Committee, asking for free use of the hall for the annual entertainment. It was decided not to grant free use, but to make a reduction of 5s in the usual charge. • Band.—Mr Bain, bandmaster, wrote asking the committee to purchase two more instruments.—lt was decided to purchase the instruments under offer from Mr Williamson, the matter to be left in the hands of the clerk to attend to. Domain.—Decided that members meet at 2.30 p.m. on Thursday next at the Town Board Domain, and arrange with Mr Moody for planting of trees where required.—The account owing to Messrs Dawson and Cruickshauk was passed for payment—£l 8s fid.
