PROPOSED CABLE TRAMS.

(11Y TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, Last Niyht. A DEPUTATION waited on the Mayor relative to a cable tram which it is proposed to construct from Lambton Quay to the hills above the town at the Botanical Gardens. They explained that the Hue would mostly run through private property with several .stations en route, which would serve the terraces on the bill side. The height attained would be about 400 feet, from which there would be a practically level road to Kariori. The line would be of qreat use, enabling people to reach the public cemetery there. The promoters intend to take 20,000 ordinary shares themselves and offer the public 10,000 preferential. The Mayor said lie would bring the matter before the Council immediately. He saw no objection himself, and the proposal would evidently be of great public beneiit. There would have to be a defined basis on which the City could acquire the line if it wished. As the line would go through the corner [of Kilburuie Park, which is on the town belt, special legislation would be necessary.
