FIRE AT PATERANGI.

One of the oldest houses in Pateraugi, the homestead on Mr Rae's farm, lately the property of Mr J. H. Scott, was burnt to the ground on Saturday morning between three and four o'clock. It appears that Mr Denton (the manager) awoke suddenly about that time aud soon ascertained that the house was on fire. His first act was to get his wife and children out safely, and then he tried to save some of the contents, but the tire had such a hold by this time that very little was saved. The origin of the fire is a mystery, as everything appeared all right when the family retired to rest on the pievious evening. The house, probably the oldest in Pateraugi, was built by the late William Scott when first he settled here, thirty years ago. It was insured for £'2oo in the National,—(Own Correspondent).
