THE FOURTH OF JULY,
CELEBRATIONS IN AUCKLAND. (by telegraph—press association). Auckland, Last Night. The Fourth of July was celebrated by the display in various quarters of the Stars and Stripes. The city flagstaff had the Union Jack and the Municipal Buildings the New Zealand Government flag displayed. A number of Americans and other citizens waited upon the Consul (Mr Dillingham) at the Consulate offices, who received them cordially." Among the latter were His Worship the Mayor (Mr Dignan) and the Town Clerk. In the evening a crowded public meeting was held in the Opera House, the Mayor presiding. On the front of the gallery the Stars and Stripes and the Union Jack were intertwined. " Cod Save The Queen " and " America " were sung alternately. An address of congratulation on the anniversary of the Great Republic and expressive cf kinship with the citizens of the United States was presented to Consul Dillingham, who returned thanks. Patriotic songs of Britain and America were sung with enthusiasm. Speeches were made by Mr J. H. Upton, Professor Brown. Rev. G. Mac Murray and Messrs Thos. Peacocke and F. E. Baumc,
