(DY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, Last Night. THE ENGLISH MAILS. R.M.S. Alameda, with the Colonial mails of 11th June, arrived at San Francisco on Wednesday last, due date. POLICE COMMISSION. * Hon. W. Kelly, M.L.C., and Mr R. McKenzie, M.H.K.. appeared beforo the Police Coinmission this morning, and gave an emphatic denial to the statement of the witness Checkoffs, that they had " shouted " for him in a certain hotel and during prohibited hours. They denied that they were in the hotels mentioned by Checketts, aud further added, that even if they had been there as stated, they were bona fide travellers and hud done nothing to contravene the Act. Mr Kelly saiil lie had no recollection ot seeing Checketts before he appeared at the Commission, aud Mr Mckenzie ottered,to call rebuttiug evidence ; but Mc Wardell said it was not necessary.
