MINING NEWS.
(by telegraph —press association). Wellington, Last Night. The Mining Record says the royalties collected by the Government for the use of the cyanide process in the first quarter of the year came to less than £7OO, but even at this rate they should cease altogether in the course of four or five years. 4 The goldfields revenue has increased during the last ten years from £23,503 to £56,235. The principal source of increase is the Auckland fields, which in 188 S returned £7443, and last year £31,766. The Agent-Generel has forwarded a letter to the Government from a Mr K. Jones, complaining that people had gone Home from New Zealand and induced him to procure funds to develop a number of mines, upon which at the last moment he found the dues were unpaid, and in some instances the licenses were cancelled. The Mining Record points out that all information could easily have been obtained from the Warden as soon as the properties were offered, and the Government cannot be made to control the actions of private speculators. Auckland, Last Night. The To Aroha Goldmining Company (capitalised by the New Zealand Exploration Company, with a working eapital of £58,000), who have been conducting extensive operations at their mines, Waiorongomai, Te Aroha, have tone into liquidation. An application was made to the Government for a subsidy in extending the large tunnel, but it was refused.
