William Woodlock, formerly of the Chie;.go Restaurant, who was brought back from Sydney, on a charge of alleged breach of the Bankruptcy Act, has been committed for trial. The defence was reserved. The case of Mary Jane Woodlock (his wife), who is charged with a similar offence, was adjourned till to-morrow. THE WATER SUPPLY. The water supply for lifts was cut off yesterday by the City authorities. The City Engineer has submitted a gravitation scheme for a water supply for Auckland from the Nihotapu Falls and the Huia Stream, with an 18 inch main, giving a supply of two million gallons daily and three millions on an emergency, leaving the Western Springs supply as an auxilliary. If the Hum stream can be turned into the Nihotapu it is estimated the cost will be £100,000; but if this is not practicable, then with drains and reservoir, the estimated cost is £125,000. The Streets' Committee has recommended the City Council to employ an engineering expert to make engineering surveys for the scheme. No heavy rain has fallen since last October, and the Western Springs and city reservoirs are lower than for years past. THE WEATHER. Easterly gale, with eorely-needed rain, is raging. _________
