BOMBARDMENT OF GUANTANAMO.

It is reported that the American battleship Texas and the cruiser Marblehead, were defeated iua second attack upon Guantanamo. Admiral Sampson's fleet is reported to be largely suppliod with ammunition. The missing pickets of tho marines is stated to bo safe. CAPTURE OF AN ENGLISH STEAMER. "Washington, June 13. The American auxiliary cruiser St. Louis, captured the Euglish steamer Twickenham, with a cargo of coal for Admiral Cerveras' fleet. AMERICAN MARINES ATTACKED : THIRTEEN HOURS' FIGHTING. Washington, Juno 13. The American fleet has bombarded Guantanamo, south of Santiago de Cuba. The shore batteries were easily 3ilenced, but the Spaniards still hold the main fort. The American marines recently landed occupy a hill overlooking the town. - *The Spaniards attacked the Marines landed at Guantamo, to form a naval base, and were engaged for thirteen hours in guerilla fighting. Four marines were killed and the advance picket is missing. Washington, June 13. The marines at Guantanamo have shifted their camp nearer the shore in order to secure the protection of the warships. ARMY FOR PHILIPPINES. Washington, June 13. An epidemic measles is raging in the camp at Tampa. Major General Merritt, recently appointed Commander-in-Chief of the American forces, is being despatched in the Phillipines. ARMY READY TO SAIL. Washington, June 13. There are 30 transports full of soldiers at Tampa ready to depart for Cuba. It is believed they will sail to-day conveyed by battleships. It is officially stated that General Schaffer has sailed from Key West in commond of 15,000 regulars. They are expected to reach Santiago de Cuba on Thursday. SANTIAGO BOMBARDED. Washington, June 14. Admirals Sampson and Schley bombarded Santiago for two and a-half hours, firing well, but the engagement was undecisive. The Spaniards claim that they dismounted one of the American guns and injured several skips. The Strategy Board understand that the Cadiz fleet is unfit for sea. THE POPE AND MEDIATION. Madrid, June 13. The Pope having offered to invoke the intervention of the Powers in the settlement of the war, the QueenRegent Christina replied that she was thankful for the offer of mediation and would accept it when the moment was opportune. THE SPANISH FLEET. Washington, June 13. Admiral Sampson has notified Admiral Cerveras that in the event of the Spaniards destroying tho fleet now cooped up in Santiago Harbour, to avoid capture, America will claim an additional indemnity equivalent to the value of the vessels. In accordanoe with the demands of America the Paraguayan Government has ordered the Spanish torpedo vessel Temerario to leave Paraguayan waters.
