WAINGARO.
Accident.—On Thursday, the 9th inat., while out in the bush, Mr A. D. Shilson cut his foot badly with an axe he was using, cutting one toe so much that it hune on by a piece ot the skin ; another toe was nearly severed. Mr Robert McDonald, who" was with him, tore his shirt into bandages and bound up the toes, making good time in getting out of the bush for a horse on which to take hi m home. Mr ShiUou was driven into Ngaruawahia on Friday morning and took the train en route for the Waikato Hospital, where we all hope he may have a rapid recovery. Season. —So far we have had a phenomenal winter, beautiful days and very cold nights ; 10 degrees of frost have been registered several times, and 12 on Sunday morning. The growth of grass is severely checked, a slight compensation being that our roads are good yet. Looses.—The " Social Peats " in the Waingaro and Whangape Ridings of the Raglan County who hare felled, burnt and sown with grass-seed 8000 acres, have lost thousands of pounds, as the seeds did not get enough moisture to keep them growing after so a preat deal will need to be in the spring, a very serious matter for said pests, as the take of gras3 is never so good when sown so long after being burnt, besides the loss of the feed to their stock during the winter months. But what recks the New Zealand Liberal. These are some of the people who pay the hosts of Inspectors appointed and are to find the money for the Old Age Pensions and other schemes for squandering the funds. It is time we had a change of masters. Under the present regime the colony is being rushed to ruin with an over-increasing speed.—(Own Corrt«pondent),
