WAIKATO MOUNTED INFANTRY.

Lovkly weather has been experienced for the encampment now being held in Hamilton. Drill has been going on regularly every day, and the men are beginning to show a vast improvement. On Tuesday evening Capt. Coleman kindly offered to deliver a lecture to the ir.eu, and there was a capital attendance. The instructor spoke for about half an hour, and in addition to giving some first-rate ad vice, he succeeded in explaining away many little doubts which existed. Yesterday morning the drill consisted of advancing into the enemy's camp, sending advance guards to feel the way. The Cambridge Road was chosen. A halt was called on reaching the roads at Capt. Steele's Hill ruuning right and left, to frustrate any attempt at a trap on the part of the enemy. The signalling was well done, and when that of " enemy in sight, assistance wanted," was given the men were en the scene, dismounted, and ready for action inside of a couple of minutes. The afternoon was devoted to instruction in volley firing, target practice and rifle exercises, Capt. Coleman also instructing the corps in mounted infantry work. The conduct of the men has been most exemplary, and they appear to be enjoying themselves thoroughly. Last evening a number of them attended a dance in the Volunteer Hall, and we understand that a social of some sort is being arranged for to-morrow evening for their eutertainment.

We understand that the review will be held at Heaphy Terrace on Friday (to-morrow) afternoon.
