/8. Mr Alex. Aitkex’s Weekly Report.—l urn glad to report great activity in the produce trade during the past week, and the fruit market is exceptionally brisk for this time of the year. A lot of small firms were obliged to sell Canterbury potatoes at less than Canterbury cost and therefore the price has been low, but they will rise next week and eventually will reach £lO ton. Onions and kumaras scarce, and rising. Arrivals from East Coast slumped the pumpkin market for a time. Chaff sold up to £5. Butter and eggs very scarce, the latter again rising to Is 9s. Bacon, hams and cheese, scarce and dear. I cleared 200 kegs of butter, which is more than half the total received in Auckland. Five hundred cases of apples sold up to 7s 6d.
