MERCER.
Illness.—lt is with much regret that I learn of the serious illness of Mrs Matthew Hunter, wife of our respected storekeeper. Mrs Hunter recently returned from town'where she had been undergoing medical treatment for dropsy, bat shortly after her arrival at home suffered a relapse, and has again been compelled to visit the city in order to be near her medical adviser. Your readers will unite with me in wishing her a speedy recovery. Native Land Court.—Mercer has been well-peopled with Maoris of late, large numbers having come in from various parts to attend the sitting of the Native Lands Court. Creamery.—Though the New Zealand Dairy Association had reason to be dissatisfied with the first season of the creamery at Mercer, the quantity of milk supplied being much below the guarantee, there is every prospect of the institution becoming a permanent one, judging by the preparations being made by many additional settlers in the direction (f becoming suppl'ers during the ensuing season. It is anticipated that the number of cows to be milked this season will more than double that of last —(Own Correspondent).
