NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the above Board was held at the office, Ohote, on Wednesday last. Present : Messrs Corboy (chairman), Washer and Shepherd. Rate Roll—Mr C. Frodsham's request, that his name be removed from the rate roll for certain sections, and that of Mr Libeau be put on instead, was granted. Correspondence.—A memo, was re ceived from the Waipa County Council re furnishing statistics.—The clerk reported that this had been done.—A letter was read from the Valuer General, stating that no request had been received from the Board for a completed valuation-ro'l.—The Clerk reported having sent for the roll some time ago, and had since sent another application. —A communication was received from Mr W. Duncan, supervising valuer, requesting the Board to forward a monthly report, containing the particulars of any alterations or changes in the ownership of the land etc, in the district. —lt was decided to furnish the information requested, provided the Board was put to no expense thereby.—A communication was received from the Surveyor-General, containing proclamations to be inserted in the local paper in connection with lands lately taken for roads under the Public Works Act.Mr W. Clow wrote re the proposed road deviation at Barford's, requesting the Board to take the necessary steps, as he wished to fence ; also from Mr Latham, urging that the road he made.—lt was decided to write to Mr C. C. Fleming (the owner of the land) accepting his offer, and that the necessary step 3 be commenced to have the land taken under the Public Works Act. —Messrs Luxon and Rothwell wrote requesting permission to temporarily erect a swing gate across the main read near their—lately acquired—propeity at Blackwater Creek, until the fences were put in better order.—Request granted.— The Chairman brought up the necessity for some earthwork near Mr Limmer's farm.—lt was decided to put 100 yards of clay over the pipes. Overdue Rates.—The Clerk submitted a list of rates over-due and in arrear, amounting in all to £122.—1t was decided to take legal steps—forthwith—for the recovery ot all rates in arrear. Ratinc; on Unimproved Valoe. — The Chairman brought up this matter, and explained that their was a bability of an amendment to the Act being made during the ensuing session of Parliament, in the direction of enabling ratepayers to bring the Act into force by a majority of votes recorded at the poll ; also, that the ratepayers in any road, or town district, might take a poll in their own district, only, without having to take it over the whole country.— The members present thought the change desirable, if the Act was to be of any use at all ; a motion being passed that Mr Lang, M.H.R. for Waikato, be asked to assist in bringing about the proposed alterations. Accounts.—The following accounts were passed for payment :—R. Miller, 6s ; Chas. Harwood, 16s ; S. Calder, 7s 6d ; Jos. Frear, £3 14s 4id ; Jas. Charlston, £2 13s Sid ; S. Saunders, 5s ; A. F. Wilcock, £4 12s 2d ; Thos. Jones, £4O os3d ; petty cash, £l.
