RAGLAN.

Flax. —"All things come to them who wait," at least it would seem true in the flix trade, for already has the scarcity and unsettlement of Manilla hemp caused a very substantial rise in the price of N.Z. flax, and there are several flaxmills about to open in this district once more. Formerly eight or nine were fully occupied, finding employment for settlers and their families. Prices dropping, however, all closed their operations, except Messrs Wallace of Okete, who have continued their flax-mill in work all these years. And now they and others will be in full swing again. The Bplash of the water wheel will be seen, the whirr of the stripper heard, and the dressed flax seen bleaching in the sun on many a hill-side once more. "'Tis an ill wind that blows nobody any good," and the war has certainly again brought opportunities in the flax trade.

Obituary.—Another very old identity, Mrs T. Wilson, of Okete, passed away, on Friday evening last-, at tho ripe age of 85 years. Mrs Wilson was the widow of the late Mr Thos. Wilson, of Okete, and like her husband, whom she survived some ten years, was very highly esteemed and respected by a large circle of friends and neighbours Mr and Mrs Wihon came into this district from Tarauaki nearly forty years ago, and Mr Wilson was at one time member of the Provincial Council for Raglan. The interment took place at the Oketo Cemetery on Monday afternoon. The remains were followed from the residence of the deceased lady at Okete by her relatives and fiiends, and there was assembled at the grave number of settlers, many of whom had known and respected the deceased during her long residence amongst us. Mr La Trobe, Anglican Lay-reader, conducted the service in au impressive manner. Mrs Wilson leaves three sous and several daughters, nearly all of whom are resident in the Raglan county.

Land Sales. —There has been more enquiry for laud of late in this district. Mr Langley, land agent, has just disposed of 239 acres, at Kauroa, the property of Mr A. Litchfield, to his neighbour, Mr W. Gibbi3on, of that place.— (Own Correspondent).
