TE AWAMUTU.

Concert.—The vocal and instrumental concert in aid of the repairs account iu connection with St. John's Anglican Church was held in the Town Hall on Friday evening last, aDd went off most successfully. The attendance was very good considering that there is so much sickness in the district; some of the best performers were absent from this cause. The Incumbent, the Rev. J. L. AKayll, officiated as Chairman and announced the various items. In the course of a few introductory remarks the rev. gentleman spoke with reference to the purpose of the entertainment, stating that during the absence of a clergyman from the district the funds were allowed to fall somewhat low. The vestry were auxiou3 to be able to present a clear balauce-sheet at the annual meeting of parishioners, which takes place shortly, and the object of the entertainment was to endeavour to swell the funds. The Chairman further st.ted that St. John's vestry had unanimously resolved at their last meeting that this was to be the last entertainment of its kind tor raising funds in direct connection with the church, which statement was received with much applause. He was not, however, altogether opposed to dancing in connection with church amusements, and when dancing was allowed he assured them that it would be for good. Dancing carried on to the extreme might be considered as harmful. He did not wish to detain the audience in sermonising or moralising. The programme was then proceeded with, the first item being an overture, " 7ancredi," played by Mrs Mason, of Otorohanga, who very kindly presided at the piano duriug the greater portion of the evening. Song, " The Death of Nelson," Mr Bathurst. This was the popular proprietor of the Commercial Hotel's first appearance before a Te Awamutu audience. In Mr Bathurst wc can pride ourselves with having one of the finest tenors in the district, and he can safely consider himself as booked for all future entertainments. He received loud applause for his rendering of " The Death of Nelson," and in response to encore he gave "Only to See Her Face ! Again " Trio, " Hone3t Toil," by the orchestra, consisting of Mr Wall and the Misses Mitchell and Bowden; song, *' Queen of the Earth," Mr G. Bowden ; violin solo, " Home Sweet Home," Miss D. Bowden ; reading, by the Rev. J. Rayll; Eong, "The Garonne," Mr Alf. Brett; hornpipe and song, performed by the Misses N. Long, P. Bockett, G. Kirkham and D. Bowden. The second portion of the programme consisted of the following items: Overture, played by Mrs Mason; song, "Anchored," Mr Rimmer ; song, " Bid Me to Love," Mr A. Brett; recitation, "Dot Baby 0' Mine," Mr H. Lewis; song, "Love's Serenade," Mr Bathurst. This being one of Mr Bathurst's favourite songs, was greeted with vociferous applause, and in response he repeated the last verie. "The Three Crows," Messrs Long, Dawson and Chalmers. The performance closed with the singiug of " God Save the Queen," after which the hall was cleared and a few dances followed. Cbkamery.—The total quantity of milk received at the local ing the month of May, time, was 4660 gallons. The total-re-turn for the season was 306,232 gallons. Mr Barker, the popular manager, says that had the past season been an average one the supply would have reached between 70,000 or 80,000 more gallons, and reckoning this at an average price of 2£-d per gallon, comes to a fair amount which the suppliers would have benefited by. The season has now closed for two mouths.—(Own Correspondent).
