LATE MR GLADSTONE.
TO TUB KDITOIt. Snt,—l see the body of the late Mr Gladstone is to lie in State in Westminster. If this means that his remains are to lie in Westminster Abbey, then I say that if such it is an insult to the memory of the great heroes who have built up the British Empire, and who deservedly were buried in the sacred old building. If Mr Gladstone had not been controlled he would have crumbled all the efforts of the last two hundred years into fragments, and by so doing have retarded progress and civilisation. He gave up the Transvaal, and would have given up Egypt and have dismembered the parent kingdoms and so have brought pandemonium upon us. He was a small, very small, Englishman.— I am, etc., HABArEFE.
