New York, May 31. It is reported that Admiral Dewey is short of provisions and ammunition. The reported explosion on board the American ship Baltimore is now denied. The Spanish gunboat Leyte was captured while leaving Lordo with despatches. Speaker Reed's opposition prevents Congress dealing with the annexation of Hawaii. It is announced that the war has already cost America three hundred and twenty million dollars. The American cruiser steamer Harvard has put into Kingston for repairs to steering gear and a supply of coals. The Times states that Premier Sagasta sanctioned Mr Knight's proceeding to Cuba, and that his arrest was due to a misunderstanding, and that he will shortly be releaeed. The British collier Restormel was captured while attempting to enter Santiago de Cuba. The British Consul at Key West has protested against the act, on the ground that Santiago de Cuba is not included in the limits of the American blockade.
